Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person鈥檚 words, ideas, or data as one鈥檚 own. When submitting work that includes the words, ideas, or data of others, students must properly acknowledge the source through complete, accurate, and specific citations. Verbatim statements must also be enclosed in quotation marks.
In academically honest writing or speaking, students must acknowledge the source whenever:

Another person鈥檚 exact words are quoted.

Another person鈥檚 idea, opinion, or theory is used, even when fully paraphrased in the student鈥檚 own words.

Facts, statistics, or other illustrative materials are borrowed, unless the information is considered common knowledge.
A nationally recognized plagiarism software may be used to check student work.
